Weeks after Apple acquired Beats, Google acquired streaming music app Songza. It heats up the war of streaming music. Amazon also announced streaming music service for premium members a while ago.

Like Beats, Songza plays DJ curated playlists. Moreover, Songza generates music playlists according to context. For example, on Wednesday morning, you can choose playlists for "enjoying the morning", "working in an office", "driving", etc. What makes Songza more suitable for Google is that Songza also learns what you like to listen with the contexts of date, time, weather, location, etc. We all know how eager Google wants to penetrate into every corner of our life. Songza could be one of Google's useful tools.

The price Google paid to acquire Songza was undisclosed. Earlier speculation said $15 million. But the price may have increased to more than $39 million (source: The New York Times) because there were other buyers. Of course, Songza won't be as expensive as Beats because it doesn't have headphones or famous DJs. However, it could be a good deal to Google as it paid less to get somthing similar to Beats.

Let's see who will win in the music streaming war, Apple, Google, Amazon, Spotify or Pandora.

It is a good deal for Google. I wonder why Songza sold themselves so cheap in this billion-dollar tech acquisition age.
